Practicing Photographer

Lumix LX5 @ 24mm

This is "Kirk". He was practicing in the field with his newly acquired Canon 100-400mm zoom. He will be going to Tanzania on a photo safari, as well as climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. He showed me a picture on his iPhone that he took of a tiger in India, and he told me a great story of how he got that picture.  I took the opportunity to do a combination project picture :).

Very nice environmental portrait. I like the way you composed it with the curve of the road in the background.

Thanks for the comment.

I took two shots of this scene. On the first shot, she was stuffing her mouth with a sandwich. It was not a very attractive pose, so I decided to show this one instead :).

Rainy Day Traveler

HTC One X

In honor today's unexpected rain in San Francisco, here's a picture that I took last June on the train somewhere between Paris and Cologne, Germany.

It was raining very hard that day, and it made for an interesting blurry motion picture on the outside of the train.

On the Edge

Lumix DMC-G5, Lumix 100-300mm

This is one of the first shots from my newly acquired Lumix 100-300mm lens. I bought the lens along with the G5 because of a great promotion on Amazon.

This lens is amazingly sharp and stable even at full zoom. I am very impressed by its performance even after using it for just one session yesterday at Pacifica.

More Explorers

Konica FS-1, 40mm f1.8 Hexanon, Kodak BW400CN

Different weekend, different place, same idea as the last one that I posted.

Dan, I finally had a chance to process the roll that I shot in the FS-1. As it turned out, I must have loaded it badly because the leader jammed in the FS-1's wind mechanism causing it to double expose a few frames in the beginning, and jam when I tried to rewind it. I had to unload the camera in a dark closet by opening the back and manually yanking out the leader.

I will be posting my shots from the RFF meetup day soon.

Faces in the Park

Panasonic DMC-G1, Lumix 20m f1.7

You couldn't tell from their serious expressions, but these elderly Chinatown residents were listening to an afternoon concert of live Chinese music at Portsmouth Square. The music seemingly transported them, each into their own thoughts and memories.

Guitarist

Nikon D100, Nikkor 85mm f1.8D

This guy must have chosen this spot for the acoustics. He was in front of a concrete tunnel in Golden Gate Park.

Interestingly, the gate and tunnel appear to be a black & white picture, even though I did no post processing to make it so. :)

The space above him works so well here.. Could be his thoughts, could be his music, could be his fears, or comforts... So good. Really like this one :)

Warren,

Great use of the light on the back of the performer. This really communicates to me the musician is playing for his own entertainment. Doesn't really care if anyone else hears the music. I can hear the music bouncing off the walls.....

Great composition.
