California Central Coast

Hi Everyone, I spent last weekend on California's Central Coast.  I tried out my recently repaired Seagull Dual Lens Reflex camera.  Plenty of interesting landscapes between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz.

Thanks Warren! I'll post some more in the future. Having used this Seagull brand camera for sometimes now, I can say it is well suit for brightly lighted subjects.

I had lined a spot on a boat, but at the last minute my friend's uncle took ill and he decided not to go. Maybe next summer. I wonder how that guy keeps stable while the boat pitches?

I notice that all the guys on the media boat are wearing the same brand and style of slr harness, and they are all hand holding those humongous rigs, so I would expect them to be shooting high-ISO and high-shutter speeds, and giving their lens stabilization systems (and their arms) some exercise :).

Faces

Warren took the first photos after showing me how to load film into a camera... which I am yet to test of myself. Soon!

The second, was shot by me. And I was focused on how to USE the camera, not noticing that brain-zapping light shining into the middle of your skull! :O

Well, I just wanted to say thanks again for the great day and and borrowing me a camera to learn from!

In The Air

Watching the twisty planes... The shapes they make are so fun to follow.
Fat Albert is in the second shot. Big Belly.
Roaring noise speeding into the third one. The sailboat beams bob.

And the rainbow-like folding arch, drawn onto a chalk board, the particles slowly falling into dust.

The Boats

The first one is after the finish line, the second is the first corner of the race, and the third is the capsized Oracle boat. I was surprised to see that they were dangling there from it!

I liked the experience of shooting film. I hesitated more often about clicking since there are only 24 shots .. and I have tried to think this way while shooting before (on digital) but it's really just not the same impact as physically running out of room. So I enjoyed that as an exercise for being a little more critical in the moment.
I look forward to more film shooting!

Lea, these are great shots, especially for your first roll of film :). I'm glad you enjoyed the experience. For me, going from film to digital, my "shot discipline" carried over to my digital shooting. I cringe when I hear someone next to me shooting a dslr in continuous mode, a.k.a. "spray and pray" mode even if it's a static subject. Post some more film shots!

Final Fly-by

Panasonic DMC-G1, Nikkor 200mm f4

#7 is a two-seater. I wonder how one gets selected to ride in the airshow every year. :) I've photographed #7 many times through the years.

I found the answer in the Blue Angels' FAQ online:

What are the policies / requirements governing back seat flights in the number 7 jet?

High Speed Turn

Panasonic DMC-G1, Nikkor 200mm f4

I like to catch pictures of the Blue Angels flying by with vapor trails during high speed maneuvers. In this one, you can see the vapors just above each wing.

This was taken on Saturday. Gail and I were out there with Dan, Lea, & Tyler. Unfortunately, it was so crowded that we split up while catching a bus from the Fillmore District down to the waterfront, and we lost Dan for the rest of the day.

The trails look like ribbons. The plane kind of looks like an insect at this angle. The top being its legs. and the belly being its bulging eyes.

Alsea Bay Bridge, Oregon.

There were many shots from our Oregon trip that we did not publish in our galleries. From time to time, I'll go back and process some that I think might be interesting, but were not shown previously due to the need to cut down the number of images. Actually, I may end up changing the set if I find some gems in there. :)
