Swiftcurrent Lake, Glacier National Park

Taken May 2015 at Glacier National Park. We were lucky to see the lake in the morning before the wind picked up and messed up the reflections.

View of SF from North Vista Point
We stopped at the north end of the GG Bridge to see the last of the parade of ships for Fleet Week. I haven't taken out the Lumix 20mm lens for a while, and I'm still amazed by the great IQ from this lens.

Mammoth Hot Springs

That is amazing!!
My appreciation for this photo is magnified by my recent addition of a simple color wheel at my desk.
Its really interesting because up until about a month ago I really didn't understand why my eyes were drawn to certain color patterns. I mean you read about what someone els's perspective is. But until the lightbulb goes on, you never realize you were standing in the dark.
I think maybe all the art classes I took when I was growing up are finally starting to make sense.
Great capture Warren!
Summer has been one of the best roller coaster rides I could dream of taking..... I think fall is gonna be even better.

Coyote Creek Reflections
After using a pair of tiny compact cameras for 2 months, it was a great pleasure to pick up my D200 again. The ergonomics of the camera were instantly familiar the moment I picked it up, and the resulting image quality of the larger sensor and good optics made the image very easy to work with.
It was a gray day, but it was a nice, calm landscape here with the still water making for very nice reflections.

More commentary and description of this picture:
Here in this composition, I tried to link foreground and background using the graceful and classic S-Curve of the walkway, beginning with the rock in the foreground and ending at the base of the misty hills. I felt that this element of the composition creates a circular eye movement around the image, and adds to the visual interest of the picture which would otherwise have been a rather ordinary reflection shot.

Moody Pacifica Hills
New camera alert! I decided to go super light and compact for our next trip, so I bought a Lumix DMC-LF1. I took the camera out for some testing yesterday. I shot jpg because I'm thinking about shooting jpg on our trip in order to be able to shoot roughly three times the number of pictures per SD card.
At pixel peeping viewing levels, I did notice some annoying jpg compresson artifacts, even at the lowest ISO, but once the pictures were processed and resized in Lightroom, it was hardly noticeable.
This image started out as a dynamic B&W jpg from the camera, but I ended up choosing a Lightroom preset for the look that I wanted.
I chose the LF1 because it has a few key features that seemed useful:
- Built-in EVF, amazing for a pocket sized camera It's tiny, has a diopter adjustment, and very useful in some situations.
- large zoom range, 28-200mm in 35mm equiv. By comparison, my LX5's range is 24-90mm
- Image stabilization
- Full manual control
- Shoots RAW, I may still shoot 100% RAW with it eventually, if not immediately

I agree, the compression artifacts are only noticeable at PP levels, and this should print up quite well. If you want send me a full sized jpg, and I will see what the Epson can do with the file. As far as the black bird goes, the bird looks a little soft. What was your point of focus, to me it seems the ice plant to the right is sharp. Is this a AF setting issue?
Regardless, nice new tool for your upcoming trip.
Why would you not shoot RAW, keeping extra SD cards shouldn't weigh you down too much, or perhaps just bring a portable drive and move the images as needed? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/828315-REG/Digital_Foci_P19_320_PST_251_Photo_Safe_II.html

Dan, the point of focus on the bird was its head, but I think it was in motion, so perhaps a small amount of motion blur happened.
I think I have enough spare SD cards to allow me to shoot 100% RAW. I am not planning to bring laptop with LR this time, so all image processing will have to wait until I come home. If I shoot jpg, I can easily do some minor editing and posting on the road.

The Timeless Look
Since there was nothing modern visible in the frame, I decided to do this one in black and white.
I thought the crude, rusty chains in the foreground contrast nicely with the elegance of the bridge.

Two By Two
Late afternoon, at the Crissy Field fishing pier, the tourists were taking their obligatory pictures in front of our city's iconic landmark.
It was time to dust off the D100 to give it some exercise. It still gives fantastic image quality, wouldn't you agree?

Pulgas Water Temple
I went for a bike ride at Crystal Springs road with my friend,Greg, last Sunday morning, and we took a detour to check out the Pulgas Water Temple. The Pulgas Water Temple is where the Hetch Hetchy water supply flows into Crystal Springs Reservoir.
