Rest Stop
Shot this scene at Ocean Beach the other day... :)
I noticed this composition as I was resting on a bench facing the ocean.

Warren, I like each equally. Your use of foreground highlights for me makes these images. They draw you into the image and bring you into the moment you captured. I find that often the foreground is not exploited and is often wasted space within the image, but these are beautiful in that they significantly contribute to the overall composition.

I like the first one for its abstract qualities. The clouds are full of daydreaming shapes, and the waves seem to have made a face there staring off to the left. It has a very timeless appeal.
Beautiful View. Amazing scene at Ocean Beach, nice composition, great B/W, excellent capture...:-)
Lena
I like both photos but the top one is my favorite. The tones are more even while still holding that complete black to light composition.
And now after Lea pointing it out. I see the face in the beach.
So now you have a face in a beautiful place. Cant beat that. =)

Beautiful sky clouds, nice composition, great in B/W...:-)
Lena,
Great daydreamy b&w.... the clouds and continuous waves, smooth sand that goes on an on, the infinite horizon.......
This works very well in B and W Warren. I like your composition and use of shadow as well
Dan
Beautiful work, I like the sand textures, excellent B/W. great shot...:-)

Ties together the time and place, her hat and the book dated 2013. Really nice. And the book is orange too. I think you're off to a great start :)
Really nice mood in both. Great timing. I love the little dog by the water :)
I love the different perspective on the Cliff House, it's not an angle that we usually see, and you caught a great reflection of it too. :)

I too Lena, don't recall ever seeing this perspective of the Cliff House. Very original.
Dan
Both sunset shots are beautiful, but this one has the added reflection on the bottom, really nice. :)

Nice idea :) The footsteps interrupt the natural lines in the sand, a classic sand dune picture.
Where was this taken?
--Warren
The line of footsteps is such a great idea! Hahaa I was so thrown off by it, thinking it was the line who didn't like being a line, but it was the line who didn't like the other lines being lines.. Broken, itself by the spaces in between steps. Fantastic!
It's Ocean Beach...
Lena,
Great Pic Lena,
& Lea # it was the line who didn't like the other lines being lines.. Broken, itself by the spaces in between steps
I think you wrote the caption for the story. Great comment.

I love the crispness in flight of #2, their bright orange beaks cutting into the wind as they flap the wings. The arrangement kind of reminds me of origami birds hanging from strings.
The copper colour of #3 is so pretty, especially with that subtle touch of yellow/green in the background.
Really stunning bird pictures! I like #2 a lot.

Hi Warren, interesting vertical shot. Yes, I am surprised you did a wide shot with the m4/3 20mm kit. After my last post, I went digging through archives here and most of your previous posts with the 20mm were kind of artsy close-ups and abstracts, while your D100/24 (~36mm equiv. 35mm fov?) shots were more "normal" ;) Also noticed you did this in 3:2, is that how you set your camera up, or do you crop from 4/3 in post?
Ted, I always take in full 4/3.

a great composition, great B&W!
If you have Photoshop Elements or Photoshop or PaintShop Pro, try adding a red filter to see if it will darken the sky. You can even do this in Google's free Picassa program by playing around a bit.

Good job Warren! If there is a easier way to make panorama, I am all for it. Cropping works well with very high resolution photos.
Warren,
Nice use of the fog in the first picture that draws my eye to the elements in font. I also like the last picture, that make me wonder what the party is all about.....dancing to the sun? The colors of a sunset are always great.

I visited here during the summer and I remember the sand being so hot I had to wear my shoes (sad face). But this looks much cooler and,,, wet? Really dark. Curious as to whether it's post-processing or the rain? The lines are fun to follow :)
thanks Lea :) It was cold, dark, and wet. It rained most of the day, but right about when Dolph got to my house, the rain stopped, so we had a chance to get out for some pictures.

A very pleasing picture. I like the composition where you placed the sun in relation to the rock. Nice!
