Pacifica Beach

Lumix LF1

This shot was taken at the lens' widest, which is 28mm equiv. The previous blackbird shot was taken at 200mm equiv., and the B&W landscape was taken at around 100mm equiv.

I agree with Lena, nice framing and good use of B and W. So that is an equivalent 28mm FOV. I really like that focal length, wide but not too wide to distort the foreground.

Red Buoy In Fog

One kind of image I’ve always been partial to is “a little bit of something in a lot of nothing.” This one is an example of a corollary, “a little bit of color in a lot of non-color.”
You can practice looking for situations like this and thy it out with your own photos… a little bit of something in a lot of nothing… a little bit of color in a lot of no color…. a little bit of one color in a lot of another color.
To paraphrase George Zimmer, you’re going to like the way it looks; I guarantee it.
Full disclosure: I took this photo back in January - there isn't a lot of fog in our area this time of the year.

Very nice, Steve! It's interesting how the shape of the buoy is almost duplicated by the rig in the background. I like how you can still see faint traces of color (blue and yellow) on the background.

Levi's Plaza After Sunset

Lumix LX5

It was getting cold and dark quickly once the sun went down. I had several compositions from this spot, and I decided to try a black & white of this scene.

I'm not sure how successful this one is? What do you think?

I dont understand all the terminology yet or how to describe what I am beginning to see. But this seams to have a very deliberate angle and sharp structure that a week ago I dont think I would have appreciated. Now I dont want to stop looking at it. Very Cool.I love this feeling of pure enjoyment. I never know what will present itself in the next photo I look at. I feel like I was given new eyes and a heart tune up.

Bay Bridge Twilight

Lumix LX5

This was taken from AT&T Park last Saturday evening. This view of the Bay Bridge can only be seen from the top level of AT&T park.

Most people would not know or care about this, but the LX5 has a true multi-aspect sensor, meaning that it shoots in full, 10MP resolution in all aspects (4:3, 3:2, and in this case, 16:9). There is a handy switch on the lens barrel to select aspect ratio. 1:1 is also available, which is useful for composition but 1:1 is cropped (not full-res).

One of My Recurring Subjects at Stow Lake

D200, Nikkor 35mm f2.0 ai

It was a beautiful, warm day today, and I was compelled to take a walk around Stow Lake with the D200 and 35mm f2 Nikkor lens. I don't have a camera strap for it yet, so I carried it sans strap. It is a solid piece of gear, which is just slightly smaller, in size than the D100, but much more solid and dense. This is because of the D200's magnesium chassis and metal body. It has a much more rugged feel than the D100, and it feels more like a relative of my F-series Nikon bodies.

Vaillancourt Fountain and Ferry Building at Twilight

Lumix DMC-GF1, Lumix 20mm f1.7

This was taken last Saturday at the end of a photo walk that I went on with Dan.

I noticed that the fountain was very evenly lit by floodlamps, which made it balance very well with the lighting on the Ferry Building. The two subjects made a great counterpoint to my favorite, deep blue twilight sky.

Hi Warren,

I definitely see it, but feel that over the years I've over-commented on it.

I dont know if it's the CCD, larger pixel pitch, or what, but to me these are your best images, quality wise.

Warren,

Like Ted, I think your best work is on the D100. I think you grew over the years with the D100, it is like a best friend. You may have new toys, but you know how to get the most out of the D100...you don't have to think technically....you can just compose. You and the camera become one to create the images.

This is a wonderful picture.

Twilight View of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands

Panasonic DMC-G1, Lumix 14-45mm

This is historic, my first stitched panorama shot!

This is a 7 shot stitched panorama. The shots were handheld. I used my EVF's grid line display to aid with positioning the horizon in each of the 7 shots. In post-processing, I am trying out a program called Autostitch. It was ridiculously easy to create the resulting image. Blogger has a 1600 pixel width limit on images, so unfortunately you won't be able to see all the details.

I also tried a 6 shot series in portrait mode that worked well, but this series was a more dramatic example.

Marina Green

Nikon D100, AF-Nikkor 28mm f2.8

This was taken at Marina Green, a vast expanse of lawn next to SF Bay on July 4th. Marina Blvd. is lined with multi-million dollar homes. At the end of the boulevard is the entrance to Doyle Drive which leads to the Golden Gate Bridge (seen in the background here shrouded in fog). We parked here in the free public lot, and walked down to the waterfront (Aquatic Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, etc.), more pictures to follow.
