A Face in the Crowd
Shot last weekend at the Mid-Autumn (Mooncake) Festival in Chinatown.
Happy 10th Anniversary to us! I thank all of you, my FPCF Friends, for making this blog a really fun and interesting place to be.
I decided to continue as-is for now, and I will send out a more detailed private email with my additional thoughts on the topic, but for now, please continue contributing as you have been doing.
Gail and I will be away for a couple of months and I'll be enjoying our blog from afar. Please keep posting! I want to see what's happening back home!
Seeing the the world through you eyes and vision is very important to me.
Happy Shooting!

Enjoy your trip! I would love to see more from this festival.
What is this Mooncake you speak of and does it taste as good as it sounds?
Great Photo...

Carl, I didn't take very many pictures that day, it was way too crowded for our taste (as you can see in the photo). We were on our way somewhere else anyway, just passing through.
If you want to know more about Mooncakes, Google: "Mooncake". Dolph had one on his last visit to SF.

Saturday with Warren Roll 1
I met up with Warren and a couple other photography (/gear) enthusiasts in SF a couple weekends ago. I developed a roll of film from that day and here are some of the pictures.
I know this is the friendly photo forum but some friendly constructive criticism goes a long way :)

Nice smiles in #3, hi Gail and Warren ;)
I really like the relaxed body language in #6.
#9 is my fav. Just something wonderful about the energy, the tilt of the rooftop, hair blowing in the breeze; consumer of summer joy! :)
#10 is also great. I like the strangeness of tonalities of shadows and highlights. - Warren T. said...

Good shots :)
I remember seeing many of those moments in person.

If I was there by myself, I would probably have photographed some of those subjects myself :). But I decided to let you have exclusive shots on them. :)

Good shooting Keshav!
I like the eclectic mix of the day you added into your series. Makes for an interesting story to read through your pics. I also like that you are clearly relaxed when taking photos of strangers and meeting new people. An art form in itself.
My favorite has to be # 3 & # 8.
thanks for sharing

The "No Posting Signs" Sign

I once came across one of those signs that said "Post No Bills" and there was a picture of Bill Nye The Science Guy, a duck bill, Bill Clinton, and a few more I can't remember. Your photo of the sign here has the same humour ;) Nice find!

Very nice Warren. Not sure I have ever seen Brooklyn St. Great vertical element that contrasts with his position leaning forward.

Very nice geometries! Just a side question, maybe I asked you before -Do you shoot in b&w or edit in post process? Some people are surprised to hear of shooting in digital b&w, and not raw and converting later, since raw holds so much more data than jpg.. but I wonder if the quality of b&w composition is something that is more easily recognized by the photographer when shooting straight b&w rather than converting a colour image. What do you think? (question open to anyone) Either way, I feel that this image is an excellent use of b&w format.

Thanks for the comments Dan and Lea.
Lea, you asked a very good question. I think photographers who have experience with film have an easier time shooting digital b&w as raw, then converting later, because that's how film shooters have 'seen' anyway.
In my own case, I shoot in RAW and convert later either in LR or a combo of LR and Silver Efex Pro. If you shoot with an optical viewfinder, then you are 'seeing color' by default.
I would love to read answers from others, to this question.

Smokers Club
I had to grab this shot quickly because an instant after I took the picture, two of the guys finished and went back downstairs.
I see a lot of people standing or sitting outside their Mah Jong parlors, having a smoke or just taking a fresh air break.

I like your images Warren, where did you end up scanning and processing? The notion of grabbing a smoke and getting some fresh air is interesting.
Dan - Warren T. said...

Thanks Dan.
I went for convenience over quality, so I developed my two rolls at the usual place, Walgreens. Their scans are low-res, and barely good enough for web use. Fortunately, BW400CN scans well, and all the images required were some levels adjustment through Lightroom. I did not process these with Silver Efex.

Warren,
Lea and I can have a lot of fun with these photos you are taking. Can't you hear them saying.....OK what do you want to do today, I don't know, what do you want to do today, I don't know.
This is great stuff capturing time.

The expressions are wonderful. The story you can make from this just doesn't stop. I think the use of black and white makes this a much better picture.

Practicing for Tomorrow's Decisive Challenge
Gail and I went out for a walk with Lea and Tyler today. It was great because I was able to get some 'warm up' shots for tomorrow's epic worldwide Decisive Challenge. Lea will be shooting tomorrow too, anyone else? Remember don't show your entries here until after the judging is over, in order ensure that judging will be anonymous. But feel free to show any other shots that were not submitted. I think we're going to be showcasing a lot of B&W Street shots here for a while. :)

Yes, lots of b&w i see...!! I will get some from this day up in the style. It was a great practice day! I think I liked some of my practice ones more than the day-of. :O

Fish Out of Water
We were walking through Chinatown the other evening with our new friends Hera and Anthony from Montreal, and we saw this fish market about to close for the day.
You can see bits of sky reflected in the foamy bubbles.
