July 4th Set

Panasonic DMC-G1, Lumix 14mm f2.5, Lumix DWC-GWC1 (.79x wide angle adapter)

Did anyone else shoot on the 4th? Let's see those pictures! :)

We only had a short walk this year. I shot all these using my newly acquired .79x wide angle adapter that is specifically made by Lumix for its 14mm, making it an effective focal length of 11mm (22mm equivalent FOV).

There will be another Decisive Challenge photo contest on August 5th. You can find the details of it on RFF:
link here. The organizer, Kent, is also organizing a visit to SFMOMA on the same day, from 11:30 to 2pm. I plan to go to this, and also to participate in the contest. Is anyone else interested? Dan? Lea? For you non-local folks, you can participate in the contest. There will be entries from around the world.

I'm surprised nobody cared (or even noticed?) that these were taken with a WA adapter on the 14mm. I would be interested to know which ones stood out for you in the set.

I like the Eat Crab, the caricature, and the Architectural. I would be interested to know if you needed to crop out any edge softness or did you crop for composition only. Nicely done overall Warren.

Thanks Dan. I cropped for composition only, and I did not notice edge softness although I'm sure there is some.

They were keeping an eye on the festivities on Upper Grant Ave. at the North Beach Festival. Everyone was out to have a good time, and very well behaved.

Street Art

D200, Nikkor 24mm f2.8

We were at the North Beach Festival yesterday, on a very warm day. I also took a picture of a street artist at this festival in 2010. Maybe you remember that one? Linked here.

On that day in 2010, I had just transitioned to shooting Micro 4/3, and that day I decided to take my D100 out for a spin. I was able to make some pretty good pictures with that old D100, and I seem to have repeated the experience yesterday with the D200 :).

Warren I like this one of your NB festival series. The composition of his subject, his hat and his work are perfect IMO. Very nice.

A superb photo in every way, Warren!

The composition is wonderful - look at the way the girls' heads are leaning in different directions, but almost at the same angle.

Also, you added interest by having the front girl in bright sunlight and the one in the background much more subdued.

Wonderful colors, too.

Street Artist

Nikon D100, Nikkor 50mm f1.8D

For about three months, my D100 sat idle as I concentrated on getting to know the Lumix G1. Yesterday, I took the D100 out with us on our usual City walk/photo excursion. The North Beach Fair was on, and there was a section of a street that was roped off for the street artists to do their work.

I like to work with prime lenses, and yesterday I chose to use the Nikkor 50mm f1.8D exclusively.

Maybe it's because I've had the D100 for so long, but even though it had been three months since I last used it, the camera was instantly familiar, like meeting an old friend :).

A lot of people on the camera forums have written off the D100 as hopelessly obsolete, but at least for me, that is simply not true. :)

Reminds me of my posting several months ago where one of the beach cities in florida was having a contest for street painting. Looks very similar.

You have included the artist in the composition where I shot around the person. I like the addition of the human part of the picture.
