Opening Ceremony, Carnaval 2014

An Aztec Dance Troupe performs a ceremony just before the start of the Grand Parade. I loved the spectacular and colorful costumes, especially the feathered headresses.

Beautiful Costume

Waiting for the parade to start.

He turned left right after crossing the street and missed seeing her walking his way.

 Nice Hat!

"Low and Slow", I enjoyed talking to the owner of this 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS. I told him that his car was really nice, and that my father used to have a 64 Impala. Ours also had the 2 speed powerglide automatic transmission. Too bad I forgot to take picture of him for our "Strangers" project. By the time I thought about it and walked back to the car, it was too late.

Award Winning Form

Lumix GF1, Lumix 14-45mm

I met up with Dan to shoot the pre-parade scene at Carnaval. BTW, I also ran into Lena there, so there were at least 3 of us shooting yesterday. :)

I look forward to seeing our different visions of the same event. I think this is what makes participating in a group like this especially fun and interesting.

Misery Loves Company

HTC One X

This poor car seems to belong here.

It has been a great month for project posts! Keep it up! It's fun to see everybody's interpretation of the project idea.

Any ideas for our March project?

Nice! Not about the misery of course.. the clever interpretation. Null case, check. At least it's not winter. (that happened to my mom's car in winter, in Manitoba. it was not fun.)

Great capture of a theme. Only thing to make this better would be the car having two tone paint.

Let's Kick This Off!

October 2013 Project: "Lines That Don't Like Being Lines"

I was out today taking new pictures for this month's project, but I thought of this one from my archives as a broad interpretation of the theme!

This was taken in 2011 at a car show. This huge crowd was waiting in line to get into the show.

Rainy Day Traveler

HTC One X

In honor today's unexpected rain in San Francisco, here's a picture that I took last June on the train somewhere between Paris and Cologne, Germany.

It was raining very hard that day, and it made for an interesting blurry motion picture on the outside of the train.

The vertical crop is off... We aren't seeing the big apple shaped shadow plopped on the ground and the wide lines from the sidewalk that lead us in like train tracks. :( Shift the crop downward all the way so there is nothing cut off from the bottom. :)

I'm really drawn to the shadows and lines of the sidewalk. I think some cropping on the left (until half the tree), right (until half the pillar), and the top (until the lower portion of the space between balcony corners) might improve the impact. For me anyways :)) Great textures and exposure!

They always say to watch for things coming out of your subjects head. I really like the dots on the board coming out of her head. Looks like a thought board...."I hope she likes these glasses, I need to go on break".

The Simple Joy of a Large Puddle

Panasonic DMC-G1, Lumix 14mm f2.5

Gail and I were at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos yesterday morning. We were supposed to see Santa Claus land at Hiller Aviation in a helicopter, and also hear our friend and his local community band play Christmas carols while the children talk to Santa Claus. We were told that if it rained that morning, Santa would come in a car instead. When we woke up that morning, it was pouring rain, so we assumed Santa would not fly in, so we slept in and left late to the event. Well, when we got there, Santa had already arrived by helicopter because the rain stopped long enough for him to fly in. Also, we missed our friend's local band play Christmas Carols. We decided to look walk around anyway, and when we walked outside, we saw these kids playing and splashing in a giant puddle of rain water. I guess a large puddle is irresistible to kids, and it seemed like the children enjoyed this more than seeing Santa Claus.

All the colors with the kids against the grey sky adds to this photo. The reflections of the kids and the happy faces makes me want to jump right into the middle of the puddle.

We are only young once.

A point in time that will not happen again.....nice capture of the moment.

I love this photo!! I tried posting earlier and ....... i dont know... my attempt failed... but with that said the colors are amazing.. you can enjoy the energy and the simplicity of a time (I) wish I had thought about more often throughout the last 15 years ... . this is the kind of photography I want to get better at and be lucky enough to stumble upon.
