Gail at Ragged Point (Highway 1)

HTC One X

Anyone else have any last minute entries? (It's okay to be late by a few days too) :)

Here, you can really see the limited dynamic range of the cell phone's tiny camera sensor.

Sonoma Coast

Nikon 70-200m f2.8 on Nikon d800e, I thought we included landscapes using telephotos, but maybe I am off base.  Anyway here are a couple.  I kind of like the colonial feeling in the first with the church and the cannon.

On the mountain

.. between the river and the trees.

I returned to some biking on a demo day in North Vancouver with Tyler and my brother (who was in one of my "forced perspective" photos.. walking across the Burrard Bridge). Thought I'd try a wide angle portrait for the project this month while I was there!

Practicing Photographer

Lumix LX5 @ 24mm

This is "Kirk". He was practicing in the field with his newly acquired Canon 100-400mm zoom. He will be going to Tanzania on a photo safari, as well as climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. He showed me a picture on his iPhone that he took of a tiger in India, and he told me a great story of how he got that picture.  I took the opportunity to do a combination project picture :).

Very nice environmental portrait. I like the way you composed it with the curve of the road in the background.

Pacific Coast Cyclists from Finland

My cousin introduced me to this pair of cyclists on Facebook before they arrived in Vancouver over the weekend. They are biking from Vancouver, Canada, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, along the Pacific Coast this year. Miina is a meteorologist and weather forecaster and Otto is an engineer of fire sprinkler systems on ships. They decided two years ago that they would do this trip and are planning on taking one year to complete.. Bus, ferry, and train may or may not become a part of the journey.. Either way, I'm sure it will be interesting for them! This shot was taken on Monday after riding around the city for a couple of hours. I took them through Stanley Park and to Granville Island. This morning they jumped in for a (very) quick swim in the chilly ocean to wake up before heading out for their next destination.

Warren, they'll be in San Francisco in about a month if you care to show them around your city by bicycle!

Gail at the New Devil's Slide Trail

Lumix LF1

We checked out the new Devil's Slide Trail the other day, and I took the opportunity to try out the automatic panorama mode of my Lumix LF1. It was crazy easy to make a panoramic image using this camera. This wasn't exactly what I had in mind for this month's project, but Lea reminded me that a picture like this would qualify to be included in this month's project. :)

Around the world around the coast. I love the roundedness from this panoramic. Picturing the zooming vehicles riding out there enjoying the breeze and sound of the waves crashing in. Great place to stop. Nice portrait!

Thanks Lea. This section of Highway 1, known as Devil's Slide, was bypassed by a new tunnel, so the roadway has been re-assigned as a pedestrian and bicycle only trail. It's 1.3 miles long from end to end, with great views of the interesting coastline, and striated rock formations.
