Searching for the Pot of Gold

Tyler and I found our shadows framed by a rainbow when we looked over the Golden Gate Bridge. Took a few shots, wasn't sure what settings might capture this best... This one was my fav (:

Fontana Apartments Balconies

Panasonic DMC-G1, Lumix 45-200mm

The Fontana Apartments (East and West) are a pair of old, high rise apartment buildings at the foot of Van Ness Street, right behind aquatic park. They have a great view of SF Bay, and are run as co-ops.

This shot is from a few weeks ago when I was testing the 45-200mm for the first time. I was looking up at the apartments, and I noticed how the balconies appeared not as uniform when viewed from this angle.

Re: our monthly projects, unless someone tells me otherwise, I think we effectively skipped this month due to lack of response and a specific subject. Let's see if we can agree on an October project.

Outstanding, Warren!

I can't offer any suggestions on this one - I say it's as good as it gets.

Very busy month, but we just finally moved into our new house! The outside looks great, but inside, until we unpack the umpteen boxes, we may be declared a superfund site.

Here's a public link the the Facebook album I made of the progress of the house and our move in...

A Summer Subject

I have been trying to get a nice bokeh-style photo.. been reading a bit about that genre lately since the effect can look so cool. I think I have done these types of shots before but didn't really know why I was liking them. Perhaps this is why :) CIRCLES. :) lol

This was taken by the conservatory of flowers in Golden Gate Park (continuing my SF shots).

MF Film with Half Tones

This is Andrew Romanoff's place on Tomales Bay, he is the last living member of the Russian Royal family and a great guy.
Drakes beach on a day that saw no sun, so I added a half tone to liven it up a bit.
All shot with Mamiya RF 6x7 illford 400 43mm 4.5 lens

Really nice Dan! The grass in the water of the first one serves well to add that third layer of depth (far hillside, focus on the dock, and grass just beneath your line of sight!). The half tones look awesome in both :)

We always wondered about the Romanoff place whenever we drive by. Is it a residence? We always thought it might be a restaurant (because it looks so ornate).

Great composition and nice positioning of the reflection on the Drakes beach shot!

Thanx Warren, that is his studio and apartment. I have his latest book of drawings. You might be thinking of the place that burned down a few years back. Middle European food very good. They are trying to get there place back up.

Bleacher Abstract

The late afternoon sun cast interesting highlight and shadow patterns under the bleacher seats.

Pretty "Artsy" Warren. Did you manipulate the photo any, other than cropping it?

Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 9:22:00 AM PDT
Blogger Warren T. said...

Hi Curtis, thanks and welcome back. I did crop it just a little bit. The only other things that I did are what I usually do, which is adjust levels, and some slight USM sharpening to make the image look like how I originally envisioned it when I took the picture. --Warren

Birds at Yerba Buena Garden

Lumix DMC-GF1, Lumix 45-200mm

I'm using two new pieces of Micro 4/3 equipment here. It was a warm day last Monday, and I was at Yerba Buena Gardens to try out the new equipment.

I'm posting a few while I'm still here because I'll be away for a while. You guys have to take over posting for the next 10 days or so :).

I'll be ordering the optional external EVF for the GF1 when I get back. It was very bright and sunny that day, and it was especially challenging (though not impossible as you can see) to use the rear LCD under these conditions.

I really like the first one -the silhouette of the crow. Very nice depth of field. Liking that the camera is on the water level (is that water? :) and that midnight blue in the background is Awesome!! Beautiful work.

Thanks Lea. The bird in the first picture is a little blackbird, like the one in the 4th picture. Yes, that is water, a fountain actually. It was a warm, sunny day, and a lot of birds were taking advantage of all the fountains at the YB Gardens.

Pirate Patina

A gold-painted "pirate?" crosses the street in front of Faneuil Hall in Boston after a long, hot day's work.

These street performers paint themselves (and their costumes) and stand completely still - living statues. In NYC, you'll see a lot of Statues of Liberty, for example. In Boston, they tend to be colonial-era and 19th century.

Myself, I find them a bit creepy, but to each his own.

Great expression you caught! And cool patina idea. I saw one of these "statues" get on the bus about a month ago and I had a double/triple/etc/blatently staring take... So so strange to have a statue on the bus. :)
