Dan,
I really like the third picture. The lines take my eye down the walkway and make me wonder what is at the end.
**Dolph
the 3rd picture also shows impressive dynamic range.
--WT
I remember the wind at that location. Keep the M9 images coming :).

I also like both of the images. And it took me a while to figure out what they were :). Very creative work on the final image.
--WT
Very creative Lea, I too like the seed image
Dan
Lea,
I like the first picture. I think it captures the project intent the best of the two. Makes me really wonder about all the food it has helped someone eat.
**Dolph
Warren, the compostion is just tremendous. Very fanciful and yet a little tense.
Dan
What a character in the background, still wrapped. At first I thought it was Miss Piggy. The size differential is intriguing. I'd say this definitely has the overt eroticism appeal of many surreal works. Well done!
Labels: Project Dec. 2010
Excellent Dolph! I like it a lot.
--WT
BTW, that's a very creative technique, did you think of it yourself?
--WT
Dolph, that technique needs a personal patent. Very creative and effective.
Dan
The tree lights look like they might represent her thoughts. Some sorting out to do. Cool shot, and very creative approach!
Thanks everyone for the comments.....

Spectacular shots! And a nice story to go with them :).
--Warren
I really love the blue clearing sky.. And rainbows are always a beautiful sight :) Picturing the scramble for the camera, lol... you got it! Nicely done.
I like these photos as a pair nicely done Simone. They both share a similar foreground and spectacular background.
Dan
That's not surreal. Man, that is creepy!
I didn't get it.
Ha, love it! It's sticking it's tongue out at us too! I think it's a playful creature.. Nice creation. How did you do it?
Lea, I took this picture of a board with two holes in it during my photo outing with Dolph. We happened upon a construction site. For the eyes, I found a picture of myself and copied just my eyes into the black spaces in the holes (using Photoshop).
--Warren
Almost looks like you had Dolph put makeup on. Very nice use of what is at hand Warren
Dan
Similar to Herbert Bayer's "Lonely Metropolitan" (1932). Very nice, it's great to hear how you've achieved it too :) Thanks!
Lea, interestingly, I've never seen nor heard of Herbert Bayer's "Lonely Metropolitan" until you mentioned it, but when I looked at it just now, I'm amazed by the similarity. :)
Thanks for the reference.

hmmm, very mysterious :).
you must be having fun with your new toy, Ted.
--WT
Thanks Warren, the NEX-5 is a blast, but the lack of VF/RF is still a bit odd.
I was initially going to submit this photo, from around the same hallway:
http://matsumura.smugmug.com/photos/1135882525_ydodW-S.jpg
but, then I thought the one I posted was more "abstract" while the one above is just out of focus ;)
I like the abstract one better, it leaves more to the imagination :).
--WT
Looks like a UFO shot. Nice.
Thanks Eric - btw, I got the project mixed up, somehow today I was thinking it was abstract while out shooting, then just after posting here I remembered it was surreal, so I'm still going to be looking out for something surreal in the next few days.
I do like this abstract, blown up, at 120dpi it looks interesting. Will be fun to see the expression on the Costco person's face when I go get a poster made of it for the basement ;)
I think the aliens have landed... Cool shot :)
I like the streak of golden light in the 3rd picture. :)
--WT
I like the 3rd picture too. Given the relative low light, you got quite some depth of field.
Very nice use of light and placing it effectively Dolph.
Dan
nice one! The raised hand reminds me of a sculpture in the "Fountain of Four Rivers" at Piazza Navona in rome.
--WT
The size perspective makes looking at this challenging. The hand and arm size is larger compared to the body and head......
Looks like the shadow is going to grab me....
**Dolph
I like it! It's a great composition, and I like the texture on the wall.
For some reason, the figure seems to be floating as if you captured someone under water. Nice Lea

Pretty funky! A fun warp of the building :)
Very cool reflection shot, Dolph. Did you mean to put this in the Surrealism project(Dec.), or HCB (Nov.)?
--WT
You could have used this in a popular Movie called Inception. I like the effect Dolph

So strange..! I hope that upstairs door doesn't open anymore. Imagine the shock of opening into the third floor, and there's nothing to step out onto... If you're lucky, you're dreaming and everything will end safely and/or entertainingly. Cool shot.
Interesting abstract! Reminds me of a slide puzzle. The rectangles need some reordering to make a picture :) Fun scramble and I love the colours.
Warren, since you know I am an arborist, there is a saying when someone asks you is the tree safe and the wise guy response is only if it is a 2x4 laying on the ground so no one will trip on it. With that said, the color and grain make an interesting composition
Dan
Is ET calling home. Great Warren!!
Dan
Awesome :D I'm really trying to figure what it was that gave that shape but I don't think I'll be able to guess that one... lol! Nice grain.
You did well to capture the lonely feeling in this composition.
--WT
There's a nice contrast of energy. It's almost a very frustrating clash... The hard hitting waves and splashes and then the background haze, which is quite calming. Yes, the lonely feeling... Well done...
Two similarly composed shots, was it planned that way? Just curious...
--Warren
Yes, Warren for some reason I was feeling everything should be on one side of the image while walking around this locale. The pelican image actually was cropped significantly on the vertical and would have been even more like the piling image. Good catch.
Dan
There are so many new generic buildings in Bodega Bay. It looks so different from when the movie Birds was shot there. Evidently, the good old Bodega Bay can still be found. One just need to know where to look.
I like the interesting color in this shot (both in the sky and in the sand).
--WT
Warren, this represents the first roll scanned with a new software I am using called vuescan. It scans in raw and you have considerable control, but also way more areas to mess up. Don't know if I have it down completely, as a couple of the images exhibited chromatic fringing in the corners.
Dan
I used Vuescan a few years ago when my film scanner was still working. It's a good program.
--WT
Great space. Love the subtle horizon and details of the sand..
Great shot. I've been looking at this for several days and really enjoy the feel of being at the beach. I can feel the cold breeze and smell the mist from the ocean. Someone have a match so we can start a nice warm fire?
**Dolph
My jaw just dropped.
Beautifully composed and very compelling!
Thanks Steve :)
Dolph, remember this scene? Where are your shots from that day?
--WT
That is really awesome!! The lighting is spectacular. The darks, so dark... In the small version, it also looks like a bed of nails.
Nicely done Warren, great framing to tell the story. Did you do this through LR?
Dan
Thanks Lea & Dan.
Dan, this was the last picture that I edited on my old laptop before I moved to the new laptop and Lightroom.
--Warren
Warren,
Nice composition. I'll post some of my pictures from the outing. You did a great job in capturing the light and the feel of the site.
**Dolph
I am moved deeply. Thanks!

I like this. It looks like something from Star Trek. Planet Vulcan, maybe? Sure looks like it.
Those interesting and mysterious patterns sort of takes one to another time and place (time warp).
Very nice.
--WT
The expression of the wall detail is fabulous! :O Horrified at the rush. Great catch!

Feels like one of the Man Ray photograms.. Nice one!
A wonderful image, Dan!

It feels like a pleasant place to hang out. I like the nice arrangement of the lamp, shadow, highlight, and reflections. They all work well together, and the flowers add a nice splash of color.
--WT
Well done Lea, I too like the minimilast amount of color and the way the light moves diagonally in the image
Dan

I like how the ornate gate blends so well into the foliage.
Thanks for posting, Simon.
--Warren
I think it's the entrance to the Secret Garden... If we stay focused, we can enter.... Oooooo :) Love it! Very imaginative and dreamy. I think this would work for the Surreal Dec Project if you wanna add the tag!
Simon, this is a good candidate for the December sureal project, I like the layers you have added via the double exposure, which gives a complexity and mystery to the image
Dan
Nice scenery :) First rolls are always exciting. Thanks for sharing.
Ted, do you currently have a M6 in your stable? Just curious...
--WT
BTW, #1 is my favorite of the group. I like the delicately captured details and the overall composition. Lack of contrast is not necessarily a bad thing sometimes.
--WT
Dan - these are beautiful photos.
Warren - I sold my M6 earlier this year. I miss it, but it gets me to use up my film (lately K25/K64) with my other film cameras.
Lea, I like the high contrast of this image, the geometry it all works
Dan
blast from the past :)
very ingenious use of negative space and building shapes.
i haven't played Tetris in a long time! (I was addicted to it years ago).
--WT
Thanks for the comments! :)
@Warren: i was looking at a reflection first, very pretty colours. Then noticed this L shape... and then a few clicks later -adjusting bits at a time- i found out that it's TETRIS staring me in the face!! :D It was a fun moment of surprise.
So fun, I wish we could walk like this sometimes! The bend of the bike racks also make a smiley face like this.. with the bolts as eyes.
Oh yes, walking without a care, nice Warren.

That lone figure in the middle is kind of spooky... :)
Nice shot! Beautiful gradual shade/tone of sky and a slight distortion of skyline by the wind.

yep, he looks like the boss allright. did you get any shots from the pier? Is this in Florida?

...but how did you really get the bird to pose for your great image?
Dan
Nice depth and the framing with the bird on top is really great.
