A Sample of Richard Avedon's Work

A few weeks back, I posted a couple of shots I took at the SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art). The main exhibit that day was Richard Avedon's work. Here's a sample of something he did. Though his fashion and celebrity shots were great, I think the best work he did was of everyday people in the Southwest. This shot of a drifter was my favorite. This is nothing but pure inspiration to me.

I just lover colorful art. Here's another image I caught while going up another stairwell at SFMOMA. Modern art, to me, is so alive.

Man v. Monolith or 2001 Revisited

Towards the end of my visit to SFMOMA today, I was able to catch a shot of this guy walking by one of the outdoor pieces. I immediately thought of the apes jumping around the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Here's my tribute to that slap happy group of...apes.

SFMOMA Stairwell

Caught an image going up a stairwell of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I was there today for an exhibit by a photographer named Richard Avedon. He had some incredible images of celebrities and fashions, but his best were the images of everyday people who live in the Southwest. Amazing. I'll post one in the future.

It's a Yin Yang Thang

When on the Great Wall this past October (2008), I caught these 2 tourists taking photos. One in dark, one in white, one with a hat, one with no hat, one with a large camera, one with a small camera. You get the picture. It's a yin yang thang.

Pilings in the Bay

During the 2008 Thanksgiving Day hike with Warren, I caught a shot of these pilings in SF Bay off of Fort Mason.

Post-Christmas Union Square Crowd in SF

Happy New Year all. I wanted to see what I could shoot in regard to crowds and I wanted to see how the local shopping district was doing in these tough financial times, and I got this photo. The setting: I was walking to Union Square from the subway. I was literally shooting from the hip just to see what would happen, and I got this.

Wharf to San Francisco

Got a shot of this when Warren and I went to Treasure Island a while back to shoot. I am learning to see pictures within pictures, i.e. cropping. This is actually part of a larger picture where you can see the city.

Trees Along Fort Mason

On Thanksgiving Day, Warren & I went shooting, and I caught this. The man walking among the tress gave it a lonely feel.

Hong Kong Night Scene

The trip to China was fun, but the best part was Hong Kong. The food and the feeling of the area (due to both British and Chinese influence) is different from all of the other places. It's my favorite place in China so far. Here is a night shot on Temple Street. All of the neon signs reminded me of Japan.

Grandfather and Grandson

When I was in Hong Kong, I got this shot of a grandfather out with his grandson. You can really see the affection he has for the kid. I have to give the grandson some credit, too. He was very well behaved, and you could tell he loved his grandpa a lot.

The Little Rascals, Chinese Style

"Oh yeah? Wait till I tell Alfalfa about this!"

I saw these kids while wandering around Beijing with my pal, Kris. I got a shot of these kids outside the Forbidden City in a residential district. They cracked me up!

Attention All Soldiers of the Chin Emperor!!

In Xian, I was able to see the tomb of the Chin Emperor. What an amazing treat. Each of the soldiers seemed different, and I'm sure that if they were patterned after real ones, those soldiers were very tough hombres. I'd consider taking those guys on my journey, too.

Another shot of some cables

I saw this on the Golden Gate Bridge also. I liked the the curves of the thin cable and the shadow that it cast.

Golden Gate Bridge Cables

I went for a walk on the Golden Gate Bridge on a sunny Saturday and thought I'd see what I could see in terms of shadows and black and white. Caught this shot of some cables.

Home for Old Soldiers (and Tourists)

Fort Baker, which is located below the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge, has been converted from an old fort to to a vacation resort. Here are some chairs lined up outside what Warren and I think was the officer's club. It's one nice place.
