Saint Ignatius

Statue of the bust of Saint Ignatius. It's a rather contemporary installation for a traditional cathedral. The lighting was almost non existent, but what was there was enough to set the mood for the shot. I noticed a great improvement in the higher ISO performance with a full frame camera. Zero post production done besides RAW conversion.

Canon 5D with 24-70 f2.8. 70mm f3.5 1/100 ISO 1600

I've been very impressed by Canons' high ISO performance from seeing examples on the net. It's nice to see a confirmation of this here in our own forum.

Very dramatic shot, Tom!

Very cool shot! I think the simplicity of this photo is what's so captivating. A few circles/sphere and basic lines.. all shades of browns and yellows. It really works well together :) The shadows and lighting are great too!

The single light source and the sculptor's design of this piece really gives an incredible sense of drama to the bust. This is a great, straight on capture, and very likely shows the sculptor's intentions as far as initial impact to the viewer of this piece.

Also, it is a great example of the technical prowess of the Canon. The lack of digital noise is very impressive.

Did you try shooting this scene from a different angle? It would be interesting to work the composition a bit to get a different feeling from the scene.

There are some slivers of black on the lower left and the upper right of the image. Are these part of a doorway? Or something else? Just curious...
