Playing in the Sand

I saw a couple of kids as I was leaving Crissy Field and they seemed to have a good time digging around in the sand. It reminded me of when I was a kid, and my parents took us to Dennisport at Cape Cod to see family friends. These kids were pretty carefree and they were having a heck of a time digging around and making sand mounds.

Hope this brings back some happy memories for everyone.

Nice shot, it does remind me of the carefree days of youth.

The lighting in this scene is tricky, with the overly bright surf, and the dark skin of the subject. It can fixed in Photoshop with some minor burning, dodging, and levels adjustment.

Nice composition.

Hi Eric,

This one, as well as your earlier photo of the father with 2 kids, are very good compositions!

They just need a little post-processing to lighten up the shadows.

Photoshop elements even has a "Fill Flash" (or something like that) function that tries to lighten up a subject without washing out the background.

Or, as Warren says, some burning, dodging, and levels adjustment will also help.

BTW, my Photoshop Elements 4.0 arrived last Friday. I bought it for $55 from Trust*Price (you'll have to pay CA tax - a small price to pay for those beautiful beaches) http://www.trustprice.com/as/product_details.cfm/itemno=AD-PSE it came as promised as an "OEM" CD - no manuals or box - but that's just how I got Photoshop Elements 2.0 with my Canon Dig. Rebel - the Help is pretty good, and there are even tutorials online

If you want to spend even less, Trust Price has Photoshop Elements 2.0, a perfectly good photo editor, for only 15.95

Best regards,
SteveR

I don't like the photo as it looks here. It's too dark. It didn't see this level of darkness when I posted it last nite.
