Sample scans from the Epson 3170

Here are a couple of scans from a medium format transparency. I shot this with a Hasselblad a few years ago while testing out a camera. First one is cropped from the first.

This is a scan from a 35mm negative.

Martin,

That's impressive!

I looked up your scanner on that auction site. It's cheap!

How well does it handle 35mm negs and slides?

The medium format scan is incredibly sharp. The 35mm scan is a little less sharp but still acceptable. What is the dpi on the scanner with transparencies? Warren and I were just talking about it yesterday how scanners have come down in price so much yet features are still the same if not better.

The Epson 3170 is 3200ppi/dpi. Scanning speed with film is a bit slow, about two minutes. 35mm scans have a bit of sharpness loss probably due to alignment of the film holder(acceptable for web, not for print). The big advantage is the USB connection and the price.

Yeah, that 35mm scan looks pretty scary. It would probably be better to just scan a 4x6 print rather than the 35mm neg.
