Lion Roams Chinatown
Fed 2D, I-26M 50mm f2.8, Kodak Max 400, Scanned from a print
Lions were roaming Chinatown this weekend. It's a tradition that nowadays seems more like legalized extortion than a sincere "Lion Dance" the brings good luck to the local shopkeepers.
I was disappointed in the casual and apathetic attitude that these so-called, modern day practitioners of this ancient art displayed.
In the old days (okay, I'm showing my geezerhood), the various Kung Fu studios in Chinatown would really put on an energetic show in front of each storefront. They really earned the good luck money that the shopkeepers gladly gave to them. They did tricks that are now reserved only for highly organized lion dancing competitions.
Even so, they still make great photo opportunities today, don't you think?
I brought my Fed 2D with us to Chinatown, and I am very happy with its performance, and that of its Industar-26M 50mm lens. It was a real pleasure to use that old camera.

Yes,although in Kung Fu uniform, the bunch did not look or show much "Kung Fu". One of them was even crossing the arms! However, the lion looked very lively and eye-piercing,as such in sharp contrast with the suppossedly performers.

You are not showing "geezerhood". You are right. Apathy is the word. However, the photo is a good one. You caught the lion at a good angle.
Heck, if you wanted to wipe out the crowd with Photoshop, I wouldn't argue with you. They need to show more spirit and...FUN! It's supposed to be FUN!
Well, I guess I should give them the benefit of the doubt, and not be too harsh. Perhaps they had already been doing it for a couple of hours already by the time I saw them, and were tired from all the activity.

You're too nice.
I didn't intentionally do this, but the lion is framed in almost the same way as Martin's dragon picture from 1978. I think it's cool to see and compare two pictures in Chinatown, along the same theme, 28 years apart.
