Sanderlings at Pacifica

Lumix DMC-G5, Lumix 100-300mm

I like these small shorebirds because they are so cute. In the first picture, a large wave came in and scattered them from the rock that they were standing on. I think they got tired after a while. Many of them were trying to rest in the midst of all the wind and waves. It's interesting that they can ignore all that to nap so close to the waves.

Not that it makes any diference to the quality of this series Warren, but I think these might be called Sanderlings, and not the threatened Snowy Plover that caused such an uproar. It looks like the new lens is being put to good use! Dan

Hey, thanks Dan! I researched for a while, and I couldn't find Sanderlings for some reason, so I went with the next closest in appearance (according to the online guides).

Fantastic ! so lovely this little cute birds series, nice detail close-up, excellent captured. You are lucky, I envy you...:-)

I am enjoying to see them in you pics. I really like to see that scene... and I ran into one time at China Beach, they ran very fast when the waves came, so I grabbed not that cleary, I was using my D90 Nikon 18x200 lens...

Nice!

I like the progression up to the last photo, my favorite - love the repeating patterns of the hunkered-down sanderlings.

The 4th from last is my next-favorite - I like the pattern of 3 hunkerers and the lone contrarian :-)
