Pelican on the Dock

D200 300mm

I was walking down this boat dock and this Pelican was standing looking for some food. I put on the long lens, got down on my belly and crawled up to with in fifteen feet. I played with this shot, increasing the contrast to the point of not being able to see the right. I like this natural shot the best.

Great shot, Dolph! This is one of the most unique perspectives of a pelican that I've ever seen.

It looks a bit menacing, like he's sizing you up as his next meal :).

Very interesting Dolph. I think the contrast is just right. It's left eye appears to be looking right at you! To me I see the pelican instantly and then after staring at it a bit, the bird can pass for a turkey.

Dolph, I like the texture of the pelican's head and beak. Also, the crop matching the neck and beak works well.
