Stark Morning

The Leica M240 coupled with the Zeiss 21mm Biogon make a nice landscape tool.  For me this image is remarkable in that I shot directly into the sunrise, with a super wide angle lens and did not see any flare.  It was not just on this image but several, without any signs of flare.  However, I did have to account for a magenta shift on the vertical edges, notorious on Digital Range Finders and superwides.

I am a little behind here. But I really love this photo and your other ones are great too. The transitions your camera can pick up are amazing. Looking forward to seeing what you are capable of doing with it once you are a little more acclimated to the cameras limits.

I am standing in what is normally underwater at Nicasio Reservoir.  The bridge is a remnant from the old Nicasio road that is normally 20' under the surface.  Nikon d800e, Zeiss 100mm Makro.

Leica M240 with CV 35mm Nokton

Spent a few hours last week continuing to familiarize myself with this camera.  This day I chose to use the traditional RF techniques, using either the OVF or zone focusing.  Using this focal length is considered the classic for RF work, and the combination handles very well.  The OVF is very bright and now has LED frame lines which works very well in bright sunlight.  I found the images to have 1 or 2 stops in the shadows that can be successfully worked with, and a similar amount of head room in the highlight end.  Except for working under tungsten or mercury lighting, the WB seems to be fairly consistent and natural.  I used an ISO of up to 3200 for the low light night images and used LR's luminous NR set at 25.  I tried to hand hold a pano shot, but this lens is not sharp in the edges and it shows when you stitch an image.  Since I was able to stitch images with the M9 and this lens, the increased resolution of this camera as compared to the M9 might make the softness of this lens in the corners more noticeable.

Fall in Marin

Waiting for the rain that seems to want another place to go, I have been out and about learning about my new camera, a Leica M240.  The first two images were shot with a Zeiss 21mm

Biogon and the last two with a 90mm Elmarit.  Shooting with a Digital RF camera for me is very rewarding, since you can control most of the process.  The new Leica, allows you to use an EVF and I have chosen to compose and focus the Zeiss Superwide with that tool.  Moving between OVF and the EVF takes some practice, but the files from this sensor seem to be very rich with only minimal PP contrast enhancement.  Metering and White balance seems to be fairly consistent under natural light, I am sure artificial light will be another story.

Handling the camera is basic much like any Leica M, but this is significantly heavier and a bit wider camera body.  As I move through the rest of my M kit I will continue to post and provide my experiences.

Sausalito Nights

Well, let's kick off the November Project, but I am not sure this is what Warren had in mind.  I feel this might qualify as soft because it was taken with a Leica M6, using Ilford SFX and a 50 Noctilux @.95 aperture.  With the high contrast film and the shallow DOF, I think it renders a certain softness to the image.
