Arches

Shot inside Fort Point in the courtyard looking up at the bottom of the Golden Gate Bridge. The arch form is duplicated in the shape of the underspan as well as the actual arches. Also, the composition has quite a bit of curvature in itself as it was 16mm on full frame.

I'm going to return with a tripod because I was unhappy with the lighting. It was one of those metering situations where I couldn't get the full range in one shot.

Warren's version posted with Tom's permission:

I spent about 5 minutes doing some PS work on the file above.

Work done: dodging, burning, curves, saturation, local contrast enhancement, USM.

Tom,

I REALLY LIKE this composition!!!

I wouldn't give up on this image so quickly. Digital sensors can record a lot of detail in the shadows, so as long as the highlights are not blown out, you can usually bring out the details with a little post-processing work. There's more than one way to solve a dynamic range problem, and it's not unique to digital.

Is this image straight from the camera? I spent about 5 minutes working on it, and I was able to even out the range a bit. Again, if you'd like, I can add the image to this post.

Thanks Tom, I'll post my version.

I will always ask first before I post a rework of someone else's image because I would expect someone else to do the same for me (ask me before posting, that is). :)

Tom, I like the composition of the photo a lot. The original was just a little dark. The lightened version made it easier to see.
