On Denman

I was out to see the shadows and light on an afternoon. I liked the shapes of pedestrians reaching out from the sidewalk and into the quiet alley. At first I noticed my own, and stepped off to the side to take a few shots of others walking by.

Me Too! I immediately picked up on how the shadows are walking with the actual person in the picture. :)

Barns & Nobel Shadows

I headed crosstown the other day on a mission to Barnes & Nobel. The day was brilliant, and the sun was just about overhead - not normally a great time for photos.

But when I saw the pattern of shadows on the stairs, I thought it might make a good background for some people in an HCB-like setting. I took several as people came and went - this is my favorite of the bunch.

Taken with a Canon S90 digicam and converted to B&W via Channel Mixer in Photoshop.

Morning Shadows

Early morning, bright light, mini-blinds, nice vase, spiky plant.

A good recipe for a nice image. Worth getting up off the living room sofa and retrieving my camera for.

I especially like the sort of Z-shape the shadows make on the wall behind the vase.

Nice lighting and composition Steve. Did you shoot this in B & W or convert it post processing?

This is a really nice B&W still life composition, Steve! You're right, this scene really deserved to be captured in a picture. :)

Steve,

This is very nice composition. The combination of lines and lighting give it a 3D look. Thanks for sharing.
