Water Turkey/ Snake Bird Heron - B&W

The rest of my thus far favorite fowl photos. This guy in particular is a great catch for me because I have been trying to get good shots of his older counter part in this tree over the last year but he would never let me get close enough with my lens to get a good shot. This guy did a lot of squawking so I left him alone after a few shots so next time maybe he will let me get a little closer.

Question?

Can anyone explain to me why when I take a photo in RAW and then upload it into LightRoom it looks great and then when I click on it, I lose so much color and some brightness. Then I have to add it back in but it never looks exactly the same. (at least i think so) Some are worse than others. I have things set in SRGB. I thought this was universal. Is there a way to fix it so it doesn't change? its driving me banana's. Many thanks!

Hi Carl, nice bird photos. To answer your question, Lightroom does not read the Nikon RAW headers in your RAW files, so LR discards all the in-camera settings. There are some complicated work-arounds that you may want to try involving setting up camera profiles. Here's a good article that talks about the subject: http://photographylife.com/how-to-get-accurate-nikon-colors-in-lightroom

Alternatively, you can:

1) use Nikon software to do your RAW file conversions.
2) shoot jpeg files
3) do not use in-camera color settings/adjustments, and do all your adjustments in LR (this is what I do for my Nikon RAW files).
