Box Show

Eileen and I have been working this past month on a art project that entails creating a piece from a wooden box. 150 Artists were given 11 x 11 x 5.5 boxes and were then turned loose to their own devices. The creations are shown at Gallery Route One in Pt Reyes Station and auctioned off. Eileen the real artist in the family thought about using photos (two examples of what I started with) of her book room and glue the photos all over the box and then placing some hand made books she does inside the box. We agreed to try and print the photos on canvas to simulate drawings and here is the result. The photos were printed on Moab's Anasazi Canvas. This is not an easy medium because in my experience it requires custom profiling and PS layer work, but the prints really have a 3 dimensional quality. Has anyone else had any experience printing on canvas, I believe it simulates giclee traditional printing?

What a brilliant idea! You two make a great team. I'd like to come see the box in person one of these days, and also see the other artists' work. How long will the exhibit be there? Thanks for posting this here.

I never tried printing on canvas myself, but when I did weddings, we used to print 16x20 enlargements on canvas. We sent the 6x6cm negatives to a professional master printer to do the work.

Dan,

That is terrific! Take lots of pictures of the other works.
You did a great job of taking the pictures to capture the 3D effect.
