Rainforest at Kilauea Caldera

I'm standing at the back of Volcano House Inn which is built on the rim of Kilauea Caldera, and I'm looking out over the Caldera from the rainforest. The mist that you see in the background is volcanic steam venting from the active volcano. Air quality was very poor that day, the air was thick with VOG which is similar to SMOG except the air is thick with sulphur dioxide and other gasses from the volcano (instead of automobile fumes).

VOG -- never heard of that before, thanks for sharing that educational tidbit with us ;) I think the poor air quality makes this scene very pretty! It kind of glows now :) lol..

And some very different leaves on these treetops than the ones found in my Hamilton pic. You have a nice mixture here. Nice shot Warren! =)
