Rainforest at Kilauea Caldera
Sony DSC-P72
I'm standing at the back of Volcano House Inn which is built on the rim of Kilauea Caldera, and I'm looking out over the Caldera from the rainforest. The mist that you see in the background is volcanic steam venting from the active volcano. Air quality was very poor that day, the air was thick with VOG which is similar to SMOG except the air is thick with sulphur dioxide and other gasses from the volcano (instead of automobile fumes).

VOG -- never heard of that before, thanks for sharing that educational tidbit with us ;) I think the poor air quality makes this scene very pretty! It kind of glows now :) lol..
And some very different leaves on these treetops than the ones found in my Hamilton pic. You have a nice mixture here. Nice shot Warren! =)

That's a lovely shade of green on the treetops :).
It reminds me of the lush scenery that we saw in Hawaii. I think I'll post one soon.

That's a beautiful photo! The colors on that thing are gorgeous! It looks like it is glowing. Would make the Geico gecko jealous.

Wow what a colour contrast... he's not really looking to camouflage is he!
Reminds me of a few days ago I was coming home in the evening and a frog was walking across the path... Have you ever seen a frog WALK?? It looks so funny!! I had no idea what it was a first, hah ..I actually thought it was a crab.
It's really amazing that little guy can stick to the wall like that too! Great catch Warren :)

Wow that's awesome!!!! How tall is that glacier above the water level??
Great pic too ---the glacier peaks are really interesting to see with the mountainous background :) - Eric said...

Thx Lea. And you are right. It is awesome. As for your question, I couldn't tell you. All I can say is that it's pretty big. I figured I'd be seeing a glacier up in this part of the world, like in Canada or Alaska, seeing as I live up this way. Nope. Saw it on the other side of the world first. If you like nature, you'd love Patagonia. I'll be posting some other pictures in the near future of the region. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

Amazing scenery and nice composition!
I like the dramatic contrast between the white glacial ice and the mountains and clouds in the background. The gradations in tone are nicely balanced, leading the eye in a clockwise direction from the bright white to the stark black.

Thx, Warren. I like this photo. I think that perhaps the black is a little too black however. I may play around with this photo some more.

Good ol' Canada and its glaciated north! I've never seen a glacier here either to be honest.... our winters are enough cold as I really need! heehee
Actually, I may be moving away from this vast beaut of a country soon. My boyfriend was offered a job in Seattle Washington recently and he would really love to take it. But he doesn't want to go unless I can work there too....
So we're currently looking for a job for me around there... If you guys have any suggestions I'd be SO HAPPY TO HEAR THEM!!! =D - Eric said...

Wow Lea! That's a big move! What kind of work do you do?

Lea,
TedM lives in Washington, maybe he has some suggestions. Have you tried looking in Craigslist.org? I wish you all the best in your new life in the U.S.

Yeah, it will be a big move if we can get things lined up ;) Nothing's for sure yet..
I'm looking @Craigslist to see what's there. I was talking to Ted about that and he sent me some places to get started on my job search! I'm in the financial industry right now as a lender with Wells Fargo, which I am aware is an American bank... but apparently transfers across the border are very hard to get so I will have to apply as a new hire. But perhaps something will come of that :)

That's strange, I thought there were a couple of comments here. Hmmm.
anyway, Dolph, it was about 61 degrees and raining at the Kileaua Caldera. When we left Keauhou Bay at 9am, it was about 80 degrees.

I love this shot. It has a science fiction quality in it. Gail's the alien, I guess. :)
