National Aquarium at Night
I stayed later at work tonight and found myself walking through Harborplace about 7:30 PM. Having my Canon A620 in my backpack, I took a few minutes to get some photos of the new Australian Exhibit wing of the National Aquarium.
There was a fortuituosly handy, solid three-sided post where I stood to take this picture. One side was oriented just right so that when I pressed the flat bottom of my camera against it, the lens pointed just where I wanted it to.
From this angle, you get a great view of the spectacular new wing as well as one of my favorite photo subjects, the lightship Chesapeake, which lent its string of lights and flashing beacon to the composition.

Very cool shot, Steve. I had to look twice to make out the outline of the Chesapeake. :) I love the nighttime reflections from the building lights.
I think you have enough photos of the Chesapeake to have an exhibit on just that subject. It's like Martin and his SF fog shots :).
I have not done night shots at all. Hmmm, a whole new world of photo ops has just opened up!

Thanks, Warren,
The amazing thing to me is that I just held the camera as steady as I could (pressed up against that post) and took the shot. I had expected to have to play with the exposure compensation for a few more shots to get the exposure right, but no - the metering gave me a near-perfect exposure the first time. I did take several more shots as insurance, but just let the camera do the work.
BTW, the exposure was 1 sec at f/4.5
