Waiting for Dark

In the barn with the owls hooting waiting for the dark.  Nikon d800e with Sigma 35mm 1.4.  I have been using my bike headlight, which seems to actually give me too much light.  Maybe I need to fabricate some type of diffuser. I am usually using ambient light, but bringing in this bike flashlight is kind of fun and gives you an idea how the pros work creating a subject in a studio image.

Beautiful portrait of a (very clean) barn. I especially enjoy the structure and repetitions of the b&w one. Nicely done!

Getting Darker

I cannot seem to get myself out after dark this month. Counting this as my "warm-up" photo. Maybe I have grown afraid the of the dark. Alleys on the other hand, I can still handle those. Found these sitting all by their lonesome, avoiding the evening light that bounced its way from window to window to the concrete ... *splat*

Hello everyone.

Like Lea, I have not had a chance to get out after dark, since it does not get really dark in the summer until after 9pm or so. Maybe I'll post a few more from my archives before the month is over. :)

Reno Hot Air Balloon at Dawn Patrol of Festival 2012

Great series Lena, I believe my wife's nieces were at the Festival too. They got me to go to Windsor for the past two years. Have you gone to the Albuquerque Festival? It is supposed to be the biggest and given the landscape in the area the most dramatic. Thanx for sharing your festival experience.

Hi Dan,thanks, Yes, it was interesting and fun experience of Reno Hot Air Balloons at Dawn Patrol Festival, I enjoyed a lot.
I went Albuquerque last year,it was a shooting birds, white sand, Sunrise and sunset trip. so we did not had time to see Hot Air Balloon Festival. The birds scene was amazing at Albuquerque, I suggest if you have times go to see it, The feeling is fantastic, I had great time at there...:-)

Shooting the test roll of film gave me an opportunity to shoot some street stuff, and it felt good to practice it with film and a rangefinder. Actually, it really doesn't matter what kind of camera! Just get out there, and shoot already!

Warren, I took advantage of the nice weather Monday night to shoot the wreck of the Pt. Reyes. If you are interested, I will be heading up to Windsor on Saturday for the Hot Air Balloon Festival. The Dawn Patrol alights before sunrise and would qualify as shoot.

I like the foreground of this image with the folks ignoring the beauty of ND in the background

Wreck of the Pt. Reyes After Dark

Posted this scene at sunrise a while back, so I thought I would revisit the location with a tripod and flashlight for this month's project.  Captured at about 9:30 PM, with the tide coming in and these small fish jumping almost into my camera bag.

 Nikon d800e, Sigma 35mm 1.4.

Ghent, Belgium at Night

Lumix G5, Lumix 20mm f1.7
Taken: June 2013

I thought I'd kick off this month's project with one from the archives. This is a night scene taken in Ghent, Belgium one year ago.

There's nothing fancy here in terms of technique, I handheld the camera while bracing the camera on a railing on the bridge that we were standing on.

This immediately came to mind, a quirky little verse I learned as a kid:

One bright day in the middle of the night,
Two dead men got up to fight,
Back to back, they faced one another,
Drew their swords and shot one another....
If you don't believe this lie is true
Ask the blind man
He saw it too

Really great photo, I love the mirroring and simplicity.
