The three rays of light perfectly focus our attention to the shore bird. Beautiful

Both really nice, Joe. D90 with Micro-Nikkor?

I like the lamp picture a lot. It has a mysterious atmosphere that invokes my imagination.

The 2nd picture makes me wonder what you just ate, LOL! :P :)

D200 / 55mm - for those of us that played with Matchbox cars...does this take you back a few years.  I think Matchbox was on to something when they sold us those little cars in all the crazy colors.  Look where we have come over the years.

Great shot, Dolph :). Yes, I played with Matchbox until Hot Wheels came on the market and took over.

Was this a car show in Florida?

Artist at Work

Nikon D100, Nikkor 24mm f2.8

A change of pace from my recent postings, we were sitting outside of Peets last December in Berkeley having a cup of coffee when I saw this girl working on her sketching by the sidewalk. She was perfectly lit by the late afternoon sun, and her natural pose with her long hair hanging down was perfect.

This is a pose that should be recreated in another setting and another subject someday (image filed away in my mind :) )

Her focus is in the spotlight while her hands draw the space in her mind we cannot see, in the shadow... The lighting is a great parallel to the experience.

Egret at Elkhorn Slough

Panasonic DMC-G1, Lumix 45-200mm

Wildlife silhouette art :)

An egret hunts at sunset, the golden light creates a great background for a profile shot of the bird.

I watched the bird's hunting technique with great interest. Have you ever seen this? It would stir up the silt with one of its claws to disturb the creatures that live in there. The egret sees it and snatches it quickly with its beak.

I love the lines in the water, they add a lot of interest in the shape of the bird's silhouette. Great timing and nice caption with it too. I've never noticed their feet scratching up the ground, I'll watch for that next time :)

Pussy Willow

I saw a cluster of well-lit Pussy Willows (is that what they're called?) on the side of a hiking trail, so I took the opportunity to grab a close up of one of them.

You have really been exploring the use of B and W and this image really benefits from your use nicely. Have you been using any of the old film type settings?

Thanks Dan. If I use a film preset, I tend to choose the films that I'm familiar with: Tri-X or Plus-X. On this image, I chose the Kodak Plus-X preset, and then went from there.
